Gardening Mama

Review:
I bought this on Friday and played it all night. Then on Saturday, I played it all day (and night). I was supposed to start my essay, but oh well. (At least I finished it with ease.) It's a little different in gameplay than the Cooking Mama line, but not by much. The screen layout is the same. Timer, gauge, any extraneous notes. If familiar with Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends, you'll get the present system, dressing up Mama, and title layout--it's the same, really. However there are different sections of the garden. Again, not difficult, just different. As usual, there were some moves that took someone else to show me--particularly scooping out 20g of fertilizer. Music is the same monotonous, catchy tune. Overall, it's just a good as the others. I think my favorite thing overall is the Giant Pumpkin. It's HUGE. My least favorite would be the storm tasks and pests--mice and virii. I think the bugs are utterly adorable.

Sand and Dragons

Misha has been playing Prince of Persia: Two Thrones, and it looks pretty cool (and I lot better than Warrior Within, which was a surprisingly HUGE LET DOWN). Of course, originally this was on the list for me to play, but somehow I ended up watching him. (He felt really bad, so I reconciled that he's just doing all the hard work, and in Warrior Within, that was DEFINITELY the case.)

We're loving the whole Prince/Dark Prince scenario. It matches a lot with his inner hatred for Farah in Sands of Time. (Again, something missed in Warrior Within. He had absolutely NO personality. Now he has two!) (Misha is also enjoying the first chariot race.)

Misha, while he was out at the mall (buying more PSP games, his new toy), he brought back Spyro: Dawn of Dragons. We had, for some odd reason, heard it was quite bad (he bought it because it had two-player co-op that was tempting us for quite some time), and now we have no IDEA why anyone hated it. While there's still that damned little dragonfly, the rest of the characters aren't THAT bad. (Just look to the originals, I suppose, lol. And to those wondering, I played the 2nd one a lot. Still... Am, technically. Trying for the whole 100%.)

I thought as a co-op, it'd be pretty strange. And it sort of is. We, from time to time, can't get up a cliff wall every so often, but it's not too bad. I think you have to talk a little more than normal. The two dragons are chained together (by magic, of course).

What made me quite amused was the God of War controls! This game has so many God of War similarities. I'm not even sure if I can describe it. I think the main feature that's pretty obvious is that there are those finishing-move buttons for bosses (not entirely the same, but they're there) and the button-mashing to open a chest. My favorite move, so far, being the throwing around of the gublins. The flying is pretty fun. (Misha likes that a lot.) And I like the little collectables, although I'm not sure if I'll EVER finish it 100%. The Elite Warriors are MURDER. (I managed to kill one, to find that Cynder, the female dragon, died, and therefore I didn't actually accomplish anything.)

Iron Chef America and Eggs

I finally bought this, and I've gotta say, this is actually pretty good. It's a little odd. I'm used to Cooking Mama, which has metals and bouncy, bright decor. So far, you have the ability to practice some of the moves you do in cooking, and practice the dishes for the various ingredients. You have the typical career mode, which you battle various chefs until you get to the Iron Chefs. It's fun.

Round of Hatchlings ended! I ended with all the limiteds! Still need to get Misha his lizard egg, though. Waiting until Monday for the new limited, sigh.

I've been a little held up from playing Viva Pinata, especially, and Guild Wars due to Hatchlings. It's a little addicting, and rather pointless, but I just really, really want to collect those eggs. Sadly, this is not a one time event, and coming Jan. 1, it'll reset and I'll be on another little chase for MORE.

As for Guild Wars, it's quite fun. I can't play it for too long, but I like to try for about an hour a day. So far I only have a ranger-monk and am in the post-Searing Ascalon. I was able to participate in a little bit of the Halloween stuff, and got to find candy apples and such. (Mildly made me sad, I like caramel apples. Except they're impossible to eat. I also can't wait until I am able to carve pumpkins; it's a little hard when in a dorm.)

Viva Pinata

I've been having a tough time with Viva Pinata, that colorful, wacky game about enticing pinatas to your garden (and forcing them to breed). I don't own an X-Box (of any kind, original or 360), so I had to tough it through the PC version. The problem with the PC version is that the Microsoft Game Studios and Rare did not in any way made this for PC. I believe they, for the most part, just copy-pasted code and stuck it on a DVD. Almost everyone has problems with Viva Pinata, and because there's no patch and they shut down the official forums, most people just hock it on eBay or Amazon. It took me a while to figure out how to run this; I originally tried the pinataisland.com site, which is immensely useful (albeit annoying and hard to navigate). Finally, with the help of Microsoft Support, it finally ran past the first 5-10 seconds of the game without crashing. Finally able to play, I must say that it's not a bad game. It's quite fun, really. I feel that it's both involved and not; you don't physically DO much, but the controls for it are abysmal and it takes a lot of effort to do anything. It took me about an hour and a half to get the hang of the controls (the arrow keys and the mouse look up, down, sideways, while in order to move, you drag the cursor to the top, bottom, and sides of the screen. It's also a little hard to click on some things, if a pinata is on top of a pinata house, for one, you have to wait until it comes down to mate it. I can never get enough chocolate coins, which makes it hard to buy houses for the pinatas (I just started mating Whirlms and selling them.) I figure it really would be best played on the X-Box, but expect a lot of trouble with getting it to work with PC.

As from the last post about my computer situation, I have now tallied my mark of dead laptops to 2. I'm relatively hard on computers (in some ways, it shows how well one can RUN if it lasts more than a year with me), but part of the cause was that I did not know that running too many tabs (on the internet) or windows was really hard on them.

The first one was Lanse. It was medium-sized and quite heavy. He was a dull silver and ran on Windows XP. He, somehow, went into what I would call a coma. He can run to the start-up, saying that it was shut down improperly and as it tries to go on afterwards, it can't. My dad actually ordered new CDs for it. (I don't know what caused it, but my dad usually blames viruses from what I do.)

The second (and recent) one was Aldric. He was as tiny as possible and a tablet-hybrid. He worked nicely, with the exception of the horror that is Windows Vista. However his cooling system is left to be improved. (Both laptops were HP, and my desktop also.) Which is what we think happened. It was left running for a near two months, and the cooling system couldn't handle it, more than likely. However the cooling fans have a hard time in a reasonable amount of time. (Let's just say that if you left it on your lap, you could seriously get 3rd and possibly 2nd degree burns.) However HP wanted $300 for fixing it and depending on how much a non-HP service will cost, it may or may not get fixed. The main thing I care about is the hard drive. It was a wonderfully small laptop, but it had Vista and a bad cooling system. (And yes, I know, you can downgrade to XP, which is actually more of an upgrade, if anything.) However he did have one of those new DVD burners (where you don't need sticker labels, but rather the DVD burner with laser it on for you).

I loved Lanse a lot, and he ran quite well until he randomly couldn't function. He worked quite well, actually. Never too slow or too fast (he WAS faster than my desktop until Michael, my boyfriend, upgraded it to a more proper RAM amount). It ran the only game I truly needed, Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It was a little heavy, but I've been wanting him back.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant

This series wasn't entirely well-known, and doesn't have the god-like reputation that the FF series have, but, in a lot of ways, I'd say it was one of the best RPGs I've played (for the PS2). I wouldn't say that the story was the best thing written in the world, in fact it's a little strange, but it's very clear as to what's happening. It's set during WWI (if I remember correctly), and besides knowing that, forget any history you learned. The clothes, the people, the technology are ALL completely wrong. I would hazard a guess that the designers had no clue what Europe and its cities looked like.

It's weird to say how much I enjoyed this game, even though I didn't really care about any of the characters. The female lead is a German soldier named Karin (and she loses her nationality pretty quickly). She's relatively normal. There's nothing that really matters about her; she's just THERE. And I actually like the fact that she isn't another dumbass blond moron (as the FF series LOVE to have as their main character as of late). The male lead is a Japanese-Russian hybrid who turns into a demon (and eventually demons). His name is Yuri and he's a typical Japanese; brown hair, darker skin tone, brown eyes, etc. The two of them are interesting enough, I just didn't really care about them. I cared the most for a white wolf, Blanca, a freaky bad superhero wrestler, Joachim, and the ever enigmatic Russian princess, Anastasia. I hated Anastasia at first, as she's the typical whiny brat girl who's way too excited about everything and thinks she owns the world. However I quickly found that when placed with Joachim, they're hilariously weird. (Joachim, in general, is a large douse of strange.) I originally like Blanca the best (followed by the creepy puppet-master Gepetto), however as the story continued, he slowly lost his favour. Originally he was the only intelligent one and hated everyone, so he usually had interesting thoughts. But I figure it's hard to write for a wolf and he got a little boring (and it also probably had to do with the fact that he kept sucking in battle). The only character I completely hate is Roger Bacon, who is a very annoying old man.

The battle system uses something called the Judgment Ring. In order to attack, a hand spins in a clockwise circle and you must hit the orange sections correctly. Sometimes, for magic, there are green, which you MUST hit. If you don't hit any section, you wasted your turn. Also, there is a small (normally) sliver of red after orange sections and they produce criticals. For a normal physical attack, and you hit all the red slivers, you get a perfect. This system isn't at all complicated, just a little wordy to explain. I like using the rings, but if you don't like them, you can turn them off. The battles work well, and there is no such thing as leveling. You have levels, of course, but you don't need to worry as if you're playing, say, an FF. You never need grind. I found a hard spot at one of the dungeons, but it just took a little more strategy than the last. As well as to magic and physical attacks, every character has a specialty. Yuri has fusions, which let him to turn into a demon (there are three levels of each 7 elements and 10 levels in each of the three). Karin has sword arts. The only character I found extremely useless was Lucia, a fortuneteller of strange lineage, huge breasts, and a horribly bubbly, yet moronic personality. Her specialties are Tarot, which you choose a card at random (not knowing what it is, of couse), and Aromatherapy, a bunch of potions you mix together (in battle), but you don't know what characteristic you will get.

As with ultimate weapons, you can collect various items to enhance the specialties of each person. Yuri collects the souls of the monsters you kill in battle and you can level up the fusions with that. You collect the Nibelung opera for Karin's sword arts, tarot cards and oils for Lucia, battle a great wrestler named the Great Gama for Joachim, win wolf battles for Blanca, Kurando is just like Yuri, take and collect photographs of the monsters you battle for Anastasia, and collect gay porn for mannequin dresses for Gepetto. Yes, you read correctly. You give them to a gay shop-keeper, who makes the dresses for you. However, I found that what was weirdest of all, was how to get Joachim's last weapon. You participate in something called the Man Festival. It's a wrestling competition (don't worry, you fight normally, it's just against a bunch of weird guys). However the stakes are, apparently, whether to bugger or to BE buggered. If you lose, you're on the receiving end; if you win, you get to show your male dominance. Yea, it's weird.

There is a lot of collecting in this game. I like it, as I like collecting things. I'd suggest a walkthrough though, as for one of the collections, you can mess it up if you're not careful.

As far as the story goes, it's relatively straight-forward. It's also very lengthy. I don't even think I remember the beginning arc. There's a lot, and disc one is quite a long haul, but it's a plot that one can ignore easily, but still have fun. There are also two endings, a good and bad. Also, after you beat the game, you can rewatch the cut scenes except the ending you didn't choose. (Once you do both endings, you can have both at your disposal.)

All in all, this was one of the few RPGs that I enjoyed a lot, and while that's not saying much (I've only played FFVII and Legend of Dragoon), it's something that's quick and easy and very, very weird.

The Pad

Due to three people disappearing (truthfully I was not the cause), my roommates and I set up a gaming centre. We have bunk beds set up like a couch and three systems, 360, PS2 and Genesis (Sega for those not old enough to remember the awesome times). My fellow gamer roommate who owns the 360 set it up to her computer's screen. I brought my TV which has plugs for the genesis and ps2. We have a wide range of games, across multiple systems. The other roommate might bring SNES. I am tempted to bring my gamecube, maybe even dreamcast or 64. I was originally going to bring Gamecube, PS2 and Genesis. Then I decided against the Gamecube. That thing travels too much (for instance Venezuala where it resides for several years).

I am hoping that the bidding on my Sonic games (all 7 for Genesis, 1, 2, 3, Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Spinball, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic CD) ends well for me. I already own the 1st one, but am missing the booklet. I want Jurassic Park pretty badly. My 360 roommate is looking for Lion King and various other Disney games.

I've been playing Pokemon Diamond for a while. It's still a good game. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald never intriuged me and I got out of the fandom for when Crystal came out. The reason I skipped a generation is that I hated the Advance. I'm debating on whether or not to get the Fire Red or Leaf Green ones. I want Ruby and Emerald along with Pokemon Ranger. If I can use FrLg on Pal Park then yes, I will get one. Most likely Fire Red. I'm a fire trainer for the most part. I did not get Chimchar for Diamond because I hate monkeys. I fucking hate them. A lot. I had problems with Mankey, there is no way I'm going to choose Chimchar for my starter. As a completist, I want Chimchar, but for the points only. I like Turtwig. I like his last form a lot. Same with Piplup. I have Piplup for now. I named it Penguin. The only Pokemon I name is my starter. I think my Cyndaquil was Chaos. I loved that thing so much. Cyndaquil was rockin'. I'm playing Pokemon right now, Diamond. I finally caught Onix. That thing was tough to catch. It took 3 normal Pokeballs.

I bought a case for my DS lite. The thing is a brick. It's clear hard plastic with black plastic foam. The top compartment is for games and the lower is my DS. It's very nice and in the case of a mugging, I can kill a man. This is no joke. If inclined to do so, I could bash his head in, wipe the blood off with a cloth and then cook some pork and fried rice in Cooking Mama.

The temperature in our room is freezing. I like cold weather. I like around 60-70. We turned it up to 75 and the AC kept running. It has changed at all. It's still ridiculously freezing. We're wrapped up in blankets, shivering.It's hard to game in cold weather.

To Note: I love Richard. He partly embodies the way I play.

For the most part, I play Morrowind (Elder Scrolls). Those who played it remember Seyda Neen, the opening village. I'm working on making it my village. The problem is that there are three people missing. Five, technically. (Really there are six, but that guy was long gone before the game started). I'm going to need to work on it. Three or five is unacceptable. Around twenty missing sounds like a nice amount. The guy at the transport lives. I found out the hard way that killing the transport guy means long walks. I own three houses already. No one was using them. I had some burns from when I wandered around the cave.

I really want to play another shooter arcade game. One complete with little pistols and everything. I need to find an arcade. There is one at Dave & Busters (that's mostly what it is). I had forgotten about Dave & Busters. Perhaps tomorrow? I'll see if my roommate wants to join. I must go after my fencing club. Kekeke. If it has some shooting... kekekekeke.

This is a blog for my gaming. I am female. Therefore Ovarian Analog.

That blurb was more or less an amusement for me. It's what I'm like as a gamer, mostly.

The whole hostage thing, haha. Well... In arcade games, the shooting ones (I love those dearly), I kill the hostages. It's the only thing stopping me from getting a marvellous score. I get a pretty good score normally. I was playing this zombie one with a friend and she pointed out my lack of control over shooting hostages. They're in the way. They shouldn't be there. I think she said that I'm worse than the zombies, haha. I have good aim, so yea, the hostages would be able to get away more easily from a zombie than if they accidentally ran into me. I want an arcade in my house, very badly. Especially containing some awesome shooting arcades, like Area 51. That game... I've played it way too much. I use double pistols and people like to come over and watch me. Which makes me nervous!

In games, I try and complete the entire thing. Morrowind is the exception being that you cannot join certain organisations if you belong to others, etc. I love completing games.

Games like Pokemon are sort of my favourite. I can breed, raise, battle and collect. Collecting is a big thing for me.

I like knowing everything there is to the games I play. I want to complete everything. I want to know everything. I want to be the Master.
